WELCOME!

Thank you for your interest in our Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Intensive Training ™. We would like to provide some information regarding the training to make the process as clear as possible.

About DBT Intensive Training:

The DBT Intensive Training is a comprehensive team-based program of study designed to provide teams with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide DBT. It focuses on both the establishment of comprehensive DBT programs and the clinical skills necessary to provide treatments to persons with complex mental health problems.

DBT was initially developed in the 1980s and has been shown to be effective for an array of problems related to emotion dysregulation.

Program Structure:

The DBT Intensive Training ™ takes place over 9-12 months. Instructor-led training days consist of 10 days divided into 2 parts (referred to as Part 1 and Part 2), the remaining duration of the training is completed through study groups with mentorship.

Part 1 (30 Instructional Hours)

  • Study Groups - Preparation: Study groups that consist of self-directed readings and discussions.
  • Knowledge Acquisition: 5 instructor-led training days consisting of lectures, demonstrations and small group exercises for in-depth DBT theory and strategies.

Part 2 (30 Instructional Hours)

  • Study Groups - Implementation: Study groups reconvene for the completion of assigned homework, the establishment of DBT program, and clinical casework.
  • Practice Improvement & Sustainability: 5 instructor-led training days that consist of consultation regarding programs, teams, and clinical work, and crisis intervention practice. .

Prerequisites:

  • The course is intended for teams who are invested in learning DBT to a high standard in order to better implement the treatment in their settings.
  • The training is designed for treatment teams. It is not designed for individual practitioners intending to practice alone. Participants must be committed to working as part of a team for the entire duration of the training.
    • A DBT team (minimum of 3, maximum of 8) is a group of mental health professionals who meet at least weekly in study groups  to assist each other in applying DBT in their practice setting.
  • All participants must be actively providing DBT to clients by the second part of the course.
  • Unless specific arrangements have been made with DBT MENA and the trainers for the event, all participants attending Part 2 (Practice Improvement & Sustainability) must have completed Part 1.

Preparation and Training Requirements:

  • DBT Intensive training is a rigorous program (similar to an advanced university course of study). DBT training requires Intensive participants to attend the entire training and to participate in a willing, committed manner.
  • A significant amount of dedicated time beyond the scheduled instruction time is required for successful completion. (Approximately 2 hours of additional time for each hour of scheduled instructional time).
  • Participants are asked to reserve time and dedicate mindful attention to the training tasks. This requires time uninterrupted by mobile phones and regular work duties.
  • All team members must read the following prior to Part 1:
